Dog on Fleas welcomes you to our
website. We humbly accept your fanatical approval. Please drop us
a line and chat.
Dog on Fleas is a unique beast with equal parts brains and muscle.
They have been performing and recording intelligent, gutsy music
for kids and adults since 1999, and have no plans to stop. They
revel in diverse sounds and styles of music, and you can feel their
excitement in every note. In performance, Dog
on Fleas is a tornado, sucking up fans and whirling them around
in a frenzy of fun. The
whump of the bass and drums, the sass of the trombone, and the
wow of the guitar and keyboards will convert you. Kids and critics
all agree.
If you have been to a Dog on Fleas
show, you probably came up
after the show and said “hi” because those Fleas look
so friendly and nice. You probably danced
with abandon, sang along,
laughed and maybe cried (usually not the band’s fault), and
you probably marveled at this quintet’s musicality. You heard
the Fleas play their hits in fresh and exciting ways, and perhaps
an unrehearsed cover song. Surprises are the norm for the Fleas.
What’s the Dog on Fleas recipe? In a very large saucepan
mix equal parts Cab Calloway and Woody Guthrie. Stir in a pinch
of Spike Jones, NRBQ and Sun Ra. Top with a sauce of calypso, cajun,
highlife, soul, and reggae. Stir with Ringo’s drum-stick
and simmer. Brigitte Bardot will serve you
from John Cage’s
hat.
Dog on Fleas have released 4 critically acclaimed CDs!
The latest CD, “When I Get
Little”, is chock full
of hits: 13 originals and 2 traditional tunes and not a dull minute.
It was #2 on the 2006 Kid’s Music That Rocks Top
20, and
one of the Top 5 CDs of the year by Kathy O’Connell of WXPN
in Philadelphia. “Cranberry
Sauce Flotilla” is #1 on
the 12 Kids’ Albums You Can’t Live Without list in
the School Library Journal (7/1/07)
