Best little children's dance music CDs and downloads
Dog on Fleas has been recording and performing music for young children for 10 years. Their 5 critically acclaimed CDs are among the best children’s music CDs available. Christopher Healy of Cookie Magazine says, “In this golden age of children’s music, Dog on Fleas deserves to finally emerge from under the radar.” Whether you’re looking for little children’s dance music, a touch of folk, or some really inventive and
inspiring music for young children, Dog on Fleas is your band. Dog on Fleas often defies categorization, but kids don’t give a hoot about that. They will dance and sing along, or be inspired to listen deeply to the thoughtful lyrics.
Where did Dog on Fleas come from? How did they become a children's music band?
Dog on Fleas began making music for kids back in 1999 in Upstate New York. Bandleader Dean Jones recruited some good friends from other bands he was in, such as the For Sale by Owner Orchestra, the Fighting McKenzies, Perfect Thyroid, and Varnaline, to name a few. Over the years the band has become more like a big family than a band, with past members returning for a show or to record a song or two. Now the band has settled in to it’s present configuration with Dean Jones playing guitar, keyboards, trombone and singing, John Hughes playing bass, guitar and singing, and Chris Cullo playing drums and singing. Ten years ago, the Fleas had no idea that they’d be waking up so early on the weekends to make little children’s dance music instead of going to bed late after long grueling nighttime gigs. They are very happy to have made the switch to children's music, while still keeping a few of their other bands alive simultaneously.
Watch those little children dance to the music!!
Dog on Fleas has one mission when it comes to their live shows: to make the kids dance. Actually, they want to see people of all ages dancing and having a good time. But if the little ones get up and start dancing, it will just make the band play SO much better, and then everyone will want to dance. The Fleas have a huge repertoire of original, traditional and cover songs for young children. They usually have a set list of songs for the kids, but they rarely make it through one. While they make some of the best children’s music CDs that you will ever find, they also aren’t afraid to cover songs from any old band that will get the parents, or even the grandparents going. Dog on Fleas is inspired by dancers, and the most inspiring dancers are often the little kids with few inhibitions. They won’t notice if the Fleas are playing a Sly and the Family Stone song or a Dog on Fleas original. They just dance!!
