Dean JonesHey everybody. There's a brand new Dean Jones CD on the way called Rock Paper Scissors It's a genuine wild party featuring the notorious and raucous Felice Brothers, Uncle Rock, and some other friends. It's the opposite of Napper's Delight, Dean's mellow 1st solo CD. Accordions, guitars, trombone, bottles and cans, car horns, kitchen sinks and a whole lots of stomping and singing. You will learn next to nothing, but have a darn good time trying.

You will be able to buy Rock Paper Scissors digitally from CD Baby very soon, and the actual CD early in December. Stay tuned for more information.

Winter 2009-2010

Saturday, January 16th, 2pm at the Rosendale Theatre, Dean Jones and friends CD Release Party for "Rock Paper Scissors" Tickets: $20 for families (including a CD), $12 per person (including CD), or $6 per person (no CD).

Winter 2008-2009

There is a great review by Warren Truit about Dog On Fleas latest (and greatest?!?) album Beautiful World at About.com. Dontcha want to read it!

Fall 2008

Dog on Fleas releases Beautiful World

Dog on Fleas is almost 10 years old!!!

Their brand-spanking new CD, Beautiful World, is an adventurous album,
with it’s own beautiful world view, that will give you joy, hope, some new dance moves, and songs that will stick in your head for the next 10 years. Musical saws, piccolo, trombone, saxes, Udu drums, and Moog keyboards augment the drums, bass, guitar, and spirited vocals of the band.

Beautiful WorldBeautiful World is a change in directions in some ways, and also a continuation of the Fleas’ ever-expanding world. The title song and Birds of a Feather come from Dean and John’s old band, the For Sale by Owner Orchestra. That band was very theatrical and experimental, with all 10 members playing toys, instruments they didn’t know how to play, and non-instruments. For Sale by Owner members Melissa Wood and Otto Kentrol make guest appearances on Beautiful World. The Fleas also enlist Frances England to sing on the CD’s final song, Babies, a love song to all the babies of the world. Beautiful World is really, really full of love, in many forms. Lima Bean, sung by the one and only Lorette Velvette, is a love story about a Lima Bean and her friend Slug. I Love Your Accent features friends of the Fleas from all over the world. Water Planet is sung by aliens expressing their love for our watery planet. In fact, most of the songs are full of love, if you just dig in to find it.

We’d love to come to your town and play these songs for you, so drop us a word or two. And drop us an email to get yourself on our list.

Summer 2008

The Fleas have been busy as bees. Looks like more honey for everyone in the future.

We had the great fortune to work with choreographer Yoav Kaddar and a wonderful group of dancers at SUNY New Paltz last year. Yoav choreographed dances for a couple of Fleas songs (Happy and Ridin’ on a Pony) and we performed on stage with all the dancers for a week’s worth of shows!! Man was that fun. Our main job was to try to crack up the dancers and their job was to not crack up. They didn’t crack up.

We also started working on a DVD project with our friend Ty Chennault. Ugly Fruit is the first video we have completed. It features our lovely and talented bassist, John Hughes, and a gaggle of kids eating fruit. Here it is:

Dean Jones has a new website related to his first cd, Napper’s Delight. Sarah Burt is the brains behind both the Dog on Fleas site and…. Ta daahh!!! www.nappersdelight.com It’s really beautiful, and Sarah is 100% responsible. Dean didn’t even think of it. But the CD has taken on a life of it’s own. Stefan Sheperd of Zooglobble.com was on NPR’s All Things Considered talking it up as one of 2007s best records. Go to the website for more reviews, lyrics, shows, etc. or go to The Pokey Pup, to buy the cd, you can download 2 free songs that did not make it on the album but Dean still likes. Maybe you will like them too.
And Dean has been playing the songs live with many of the musicians from the album. The funny thing is that all the shows have been for adults, and they seem to dig the music. I guess grownups aren’t so dumb after all.

In the department of change: Debbie Lan and David Levine are no longer playing with Dog on Fleas. They’ve each been a huge part of the Fleas and they will be making great music wherever they go. We wish them luck in their other pursuits.

Hey!!! Cindy Hoose has a new website. She is responsible for all the Fleas cd covers and she is very crafty and smart as a button.

Oh, and the Fleas are on a cd to raise money for the High Meadow School in Stone Ridge, New York. We recorded four songs with Elizabeth Mitchell and Daniel Littleton. And there is lots of music on the cd. Check it out: www.cdbaby.com

Well, who’s actually reading this far? That’s more than enough news. Ciao bellos.
