Green Grass of Summer
from: When I Get Little
Green grass of summer
by Dean Jones
Oh I ate a bowl of oats and I ate a bowl of porridge
I waited for the green, the green grass of summer
I lay down in a field, I lay down in a meadow
I wrapped myself in vines and drifted into slumber
The wind blew strong
The hawks soared higher
I waited for the green, sittin’ by a fire
The leaves blew around, they couldn’t get browner
They lay on the ground, couldn’t get any downer
I hollowed out a stump and got into my jammies
Waited for the green, the green grass of summer
Down came the snow, my blanket and my pillow
Made a cup of tea to take away the chillo
Then I found the thing that I know
That everywhere you’ve been you’re gonna go again
Oh I woke up form my sleep, woke from my slumber
Couldn’t really say if I was smarter or dumber
I looked to the south, I looked to the north
The trees were all swaying, talking back and forth
I saw a little green, I saw a little yellow
Spied a baby mouse, cute little fellow
I shook off my pallor and dove into the green
Home is the place that I’ve always, always been
Then I found the thing that I know
That everywhere you’ve been you’re gonna go again
I think and think and try to recognize
It’s easier sometimes with closed eyes
